ABBREVIATIONS (US Terms)

  • Ch -- Chain
  • Sc -- Single Crochet
  • Dc -- Double Crochet
  • FPdc -- Front Post Double Crochet
  • BPdc -- Back Post Double Crochet
  • Sl St -- Slip Stitch

GAUGE

  • 13 stitches + 16 rows in sc measures 4"x4" square
  • If your gauge doesn't match mine, go up or down a hook size depending on your tension.

NOTES

  • The ch 1 at the beginning of every row does not count as a stitch.

HOW TO MAKE A FPDC

1: Yarn over. 
2: Insert your hook behind the post of the next stitch as shown above. Your stitch will be in front of your hook. 
3: Yarn over and pull up a loop, bringing it through both sides of the fabric. (3 loops remaining on hook)
4: Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook. (2 loops remaining on hook)
5: Yarn over and pull through remaining 2 loops on hook.

 

HOW TO MAKE A BPDC

1: Yarn over. 
2: Insert your hook in front of the post of the next stitch as shown above. Your stitch will be behind your hook.
3: Yarn over and pull up a loop, bringing it through both sides of the fabric. (3 loops remaining on hook)
4: Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook. (2 loops remaining on hook)
5: Yarn over and pull through remaining 2 loops on hook.

PATTERN

Ch 32

Row 1 (Right Side): Sc into the 2nd ch from the hook and into every chain across. Turn. (31 sc)

Row 2-8: Ch 1 (does not count as stitch), sc into the first stitch and into every stitch across. Turn. (31 stitches)

Row 9-14: Ch 1. Sc into the first stitch, dc into the nest stitch. (Sc, dc) across the row, ending with a sc in the last stitch. Turn. (31 stitches)

Row 15-22: Repeat rows 2-8

Row 23-28: Repeat rows 9-14

Row 29-36: Repeat rows 2-8

Don't fasten off your yarn yet! We'll continue on to the border.

BORDER

Round 1:

- Ch 3 (counts as a dc), dc evenly down the side of you dishcloth.

- When you reach the corner, (dc, ch 1, dc) into the corner stitch.

- Continue to dc across the bottom and around the dishcloth. Make sure to put (dc, ch 1, dc) into the corner stitches.

- When you get back to your first stitch, make (dc, ch 1) into the same stitch as your turning ch. Sl st to the top of the turning ch.

Round 2:

- Ch 3. FPdc around the next stitch. BPdc around the next stitch. (FPdc, BPdc) until you reach the corner ch-1 space. (Dc, ch 1, dc) into the ch-1 space.

- FPdc around the next stitch. (BPdc, FPdc) across. (Dc, ch 1, dc) into each corner ch-1 space.

*Note: After each corner space, you will begin again with a FPdc, even if your last stitch before the corner was a FPdc.

- When you get back to the beginning, make (dc, ch 1) into the same space as the turning ch. Sl st to the top of the turning ch.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
