Time for one of my favorite patterns of all time!! Need to dress up your table for a holiday meal? Or maybe you just want your table to look pretty all year round? I have the perfect beginner, quick project for you friend.

You can find the ad-free, printable pdf here

This post is all about how to crochet a modern round crochet placemat.

MATERIALS

DIMENSIONS

  • 13" circle

ABBREVIATIONS

  • Ch -- Chain
  • Blo -- Back Loop Only
  • Hhdc -- Herringbone Half Double Crochet
  • Inc -- Make 2 HHDC in the same stitch
  • Sl St -- Slip Stitch
  • * -- Repeat

GAUGE

  • Not important for this project. My finished placemat came out to be 13".
  • If yours is coming out too small, try using a bigger hook size.

NOTES

  • Do not join at the end of a round. Rounds are worked in a continuous spiral.
  • Try to crochet these stitches loosely. If you make the hhdc too tight, your trivet might curl up on you.
  • Every stitch in this pattern will be worked into the back loop only.
  • If you have any questions at all, please reach out to me and I'd be happy to help!

HOW TO: HHDC

1. Yarn over

Yarn over. Put your hook into the stitch and draw up a loop. (3 loops)

Pull the 1st loop straight through the 2nd loop. You will have 2 loops left on your hook.

Yarn over. Pull through the last 2 loops.
